About the Course
As you develop scientific expertise in the classroom, it is imperative to your success that your knowledge of risk assessment and laboratory safety evolves in tandem. A significant gap we have observed has been that many learners receive only cursory training in laboratory safety and are left to learn advanced safety skills with little direction. This leads to highly inconsistent and varying degrees of laboratory safety understanding among developing researchers.
ACS Case Studies for Research Lab Safety takes a case study approach to teaching and learning. We provide you with a library of self-paced on-demand case studies covering topics relevant to you as an evolving researcher. Each case study leads you through the exploration of a real-world research laboratory incident and includes Knowledge Checks that emphasize the four steps of risk assessment (recognize hazards, assess risks, minimize risks, prepare for emergencies). These case studies can also support you in sparking important conversations around risk assessment and research safety among your peers, advisors, and mentors.
