About the Course

In both formal leadership positions and informal leadership roles you may need to direct others who don’t, or don’t want to, report to you. In an environment of shrinking hierarchies and increased reliance on individual contributors, volunteers, and teams, leaders often lack traditional followers. This presents myriad challenges that require those acting as leaders to develop and creatively employ managerial skills to essentially make friends and influence people to accomplish project and team goals. In this 4-hour interactive workshop you will learn and practice techniques to:

  • Influence individuals and groups with diverse operational styles and viewpoints
  • Organize and get commitment from uncooperative and “siloed” groups
  • Gain support to launch a project lacking in initial buy-in
  • Enlist busy members to provide ongoing support in exchange for meaning involvement in initiatives

What You Will Learn

After completion of the course, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify when “influencing skills” are needed
  • Choose and employ effective persuasive techniques
  • Apply the two dimensions of influence (business and relationship)
  • Understand what is of value to people you want to engage and employ strategies to help them get what they want from their involvement
  • Establish and build of trust with someone whose help you need

Who Should Attend

The skills in this workshop are valuable to all members, whether you are in a formal leadership position or not. The skills attained in this course are highly transferable work and school environments to help participants more effectively direct and manage projects, teams, committees.
